Hendy Glass got introduced to glass by working in a fish store after meeting Jason freedman and Matt Bane. They started Hendy as their first apprentice. He started working by making laticcino cane for inside out pipes and other prep. After that he got into spoons, then bubblers, then rigs, ect. Hendy says he worked prodo for 7 years before he really started doing heady artistic work. He thinks glass is humbling and and if you aren't focused, glass can be surprising and just break or produce other undesirable and frustrating effects. With a background in prodo work, Hendy glass never took a class and saw it as inapplicable.
He says that only in the past 5 years or so does he think he could take what he learned at a class and use it artistically. When asked about his style Hendy gave us a good bit to think about but settled on "Just makes shit that looks cool" stating he doesn't really see himself as someone who strives to put a lot of extraneous meaning in his work. Instead Hendy's organic and spontaneous style attempts to self inspire to keep his work fresh and creative although it the hard work that really makes it special.
